History

BOMA BEST, founded in 2005, is North America’s largest environmental assessment and certification program for existing buildings.

It is a unique, voluntary program designed by industry for industry; it provides owners and managers with a consistent framework for assessing the environmental performance and management of existing buildings of all sizes.


BOMA BEST Sustainable certification recognizes excellence in energy and environmental management and performance in commercial real estate. The Program is managed by the Building Owners and Managers Association of Canada (BOMA Canada) and delivered by the eleven Local BOMA Associations throughout Canada.


BOMA BEST Smart certification, introduced in 2023, doubles as a management tool, guiding owners and managers on digital transformation within the built environment to optimize operations, drive sustainability, create unique user experiences, and deliver financial value to their stakeholders and customers.
