This is a reminder that BOMA BEST Sustainable 4.1 launches on the BOMA BEST Hub on January 31st, 2025 at midnight. January 31st 2025 is the last day to submit your BOMA BEST 4.0 submissions for verification. BOMA BEST 4.0 submissions will not be accepted after this date.
Additionally, the BOMA BEST 4.1 Questionnaires by asset type will be available on our BOMA BEST Field guide on January 31st 2025.

1. What is the intention behind the update to BOMA BEST Sustainable?
BOMA BEST 4.1 was developed in response to feedback on the clarity of the language, requirements, and minor scoring in version 4.0. The update aims to improve comprehension across all asset classes.
2. Will the update be more intensive than 4.0?
No, much of the work that is done for BOMA BEST 4.0 will directly translate into BOMA BEST 4.1.
3. When can I expect the new field guides?
The updated field guide will be published on the BOMA BEST website by late fall. We will send an e-news in advance to announce the exact release date.
4. How will I know what has changed?
Along with the field guide, a document outlining the specific changes has been provided for transparency here.
5. Are there any changes to the BOMA BEST Baseline Practices?
No, no changes have been made to the BOMA BEST Baseline Practices and the requirements will remain the same as BOMA BEST 4.0.
6. What are the new questions included in the update?
Two questions from BOMA BEST Sustainable 3.0 have been reintroduced: Indoor Smoking and Outdoor Hardscape Management.
7. When will the update take place and the previous version close?
The BOMA BEST 4.0 program closes on January 31, 2025 and the update will officially take effect on January 31, 2025 in the Hub. There will be no overlap period for the two programs.
8. What will happen if I’m not ready to submit for verification by January 31st?
Please reach out to your portfolio manager or info@bomabest.org to discuss your potential options.
9. If I begin work in the BOMA BEST Sustainable 4.0 questionnaire, will it automatically transfer in 2025 if I have not submitted for verification by the time the program transitions?
No, the work completed on the BOMA BEST 4.0 questionnaire will not automatically transfer to updated version, as they are distinct questionnaires. Any work completed in the BOMA BEST 4.0 questionnaire will be kept in the historical folder in the BOMA BEST Hub.
10. What happens to my BOMA BEST Sustainable 4.0 questionnaire that is already in the verification process?
Any BOMA BEST 4.0 questionnaires that have already begun the verification process in 2024 will remain unaffected.
